There is much happening with your Foundation and I’m excited to be a part of it as I take over as Chair of the Board of Trustees this month. As I hope most of you know, the charitable arm of the Society of FSP, the Foundation for Financial Service Professionals, has four key programs: Paul S. Mills Scholarships, Journal Author Awards, the American Business Ethics Award (ABEA), and Financial Education Partners (FEP).
Each of these programs operates in fulfillment of the Foundation’s core values of stewardship, scholarship, and service. These programs are about making something better, about encouraging best practices, about making a difference, and about giving back. As was so articulately stated by Winston Churchill, “We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give.”
This is the heart of our Foundation. Therefore, I’d like to call on you to “make a life” through giving to the Foundation. Of course, we’d love to have your financial support. The Foundation now has four 5-year pledge levels (see Giving Options for details) and we’d be most grateful for your gift at whatever level is most comfortable for you.
Beyond monetary contributions, the Foundation offers other opportunities to get involved:
- Join the FEP program and provide pro bono financial counseling to those in need.
- Volunteer to serve as an FEP coordinator in your community.
- Nominate a deserving colleague for a Paul Mills Scholarship.
- Nominate a deserving company for the ABEA.
- Consider starting a local BEA program in your FSP Chapter or, if your Chapter has a program, join the team that makes it happen.
John Rodee, CLU, an FEP counselor in San Diego, helps make it all clear: “I get many a heartfelt thank you from FEP clients dealing with MS and cancer. They truly appreciate being able to communicate with someone about their financial planning challenges. It raises my level of awareness of a huge need and how I can give back…. Every member of FSP can benefit from being engaged in this effort.”
