FSP Forum 2008 Starts with Motivation, Ends with
Education
Newtown Square, PA - FSP Forum 2008, hosted
by the Society of Financial Service Professionals (FSP) October 31-November
2 in Las Vegas, will be book-ended by two exciting general sessions: a motivational
presentation from a leading national speaker and an expert panel discussion
on succession planning for a family business.
The opening general session
features Mike Schlappi, who has succeeded as an Olympic athlete, entrepreneur,
author and father despite a tragic accident that has confined him to a wheelchair
since the age of 14. His thought-provoking
keynote presentation, “If You Can’t Stand Up, Stand Out,” challenges
individuals to take responsibility and be empowered despite the obstacles
life places in the way.
With a nod to The Godfather, a panel discussion
entitled “It’s
Not Personal Sonny, Its Strictly Business” features a family in transition
as the patriarch looks to retire from the business. Is there enough
value in the company to fund 20-30 years of retirement? What are the
estate tax implications? Are the kids on board with dad’s succession
plans? Moderator Richard Weber, MBA, CLU, will guide a dramatic
demonstration of the value of a team approach to succession planning featuring
four expert panelists; Robert Alexander, JD, LLM, AEP, EPLS; Sam Torolopoulos,
CPA-ABV, ASA; Dennis Axman, CLU, ChFC, AEP, CFP; and Margaret May
Damen, CFP, CLU, ChFC, CDFA.
