Spotlight on the American Business Ethics Award
It’s a milestone year for the American Business Ethics Award program. We are celebrating 20 years of honoring the good in American business. The program, founded by the Society of FSP in 1994, and now administered by the Foundation for FSP, is considered the most prestigious award of its type among companies large and small throughout the United States.

I recently had the pleasure of presenting the ABEA to our 2013 “small company” recipient, The Neenan Company. “Wow” is the word that comes to mind when I try to describe the excitement and energy of this presentation. As I stood before the group outlining the reasons why the ABEA judges selected their company (you’ll read more about these reasons elsewhere in this newsletter), I was interrupted several times by spontaneous applause. The same thing happened a few minutes later when the company CEO, Randy Myers, accepted the award. You could see in their faces that these employees were deeply touched and honored to work for an ethical company. They were proud of their company, not just for winning an award, but for being a company that truly deserved this recognition. I was humbled to be just a small part of their celebration and to be associated with the American Business Ethics Award.

As a side note, the ABEA program is facing funding challenges. The Board of Trustees and staff are pursuing corporate sponsorship opportunities but have also initiated a grassroots effort among the Society of FSP membership. Our goal is to generate 200 gifts of $200 to support the 2014 American Business Ethics Award. If you can help, go to and click on “Make a Contribution.” Thank you.
