Pay It Forward
I love the idea of “pay it forward”—described by Wikipedia as “asking the beneficiary of a good deed to repay it to others instead of to the original benefactor.” It’s a new way of looking at the old concept of “giving back.”
Financial service professionals are world champions at paying it forward. For example, over 550 members of the Society of FSP have volunteered for the Foundation’s Financial Education Partners program. This is where FSP members share their expertise with individuals in financial crises on a pro bono basis, paying forward the blessing of financial security that they have received. Our newly revised Paul Mills Scholarship program is another example of paying it forward. The generous gifts of Foundation donors are funding needs-based scholarships for students pursuing undergraduate degrees in financial service-related fields.
This year marks the final year of the two five-year pledge programs we introduced in 2009—the Foundation Council and the Millennium Club. It is essential that we renew these pledges for the next five years so that our Foundation can continue to help pay it forward. A Foundation Council pledge calls for a commitment of $7,500 ($1,500/year for five years). The more modest Millennium Club donation is $1,000 ($200/year for five years). We hope you will renew your pledge today. If you haven’t yet made a pledge, now is always a good time. Special thanks to Dale Vetter, Cliff Berg, Dick Bell, and Marshall Lipson for being among the first to recommit. Go to www.financialprofoundation.org for more information.
