Unsung Hero
He prefers to work quietly in the shadows without drawing attention to himself or the work he has been doing on behalf of Financial Education Partners (FEP). But the story should be told.

The “he” to whom I am referring is Richard A. Bell, CLU, ChFC, CFP, MSFS, RHU, REBC, a past president of both the Society of FSP and the Foundation for Financial Service Professionals. FEP is the Foundation’s pro bono financial counseling program. Through FEP, volunteer members of FSP offer financial guidance—at no cost—to individuals referred by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS).

FEP was started as the result of Dick Bell’s vision and continues to flourish today because of Dick’s energy and passion. With no paid staff, the FEP program’s success can be attributed to Dick’s dedication and his special talent for making connections. On one side, Dick is connected to the leadership at NMSS. They know that when they get a call from an MS client who is floundering financially, they can turn to FEP for help. On the other side, Dick has built relationships with an extensive network of volunteers in Society of FSP Chapters throughout the country.

In this newsletter, you will read about some real-life success stories resulting from these FEP connections. FEP has truly been able to make a difference in the lives of people in need.

As I take over chairmanship of the Foundation this month, I’d like to express my heartfelt appreciation to Dick Bell and all our unsung heroes who are making FEP a success.
