The majority of American workers are insured through their employers, and the impact of financial planning on both employers and employees is huge. Financial planners, both brokers and independents, must know what benefits are provided by employer-sponsored plans to be able to advise employees on how best to achieve their personal health, disability, savings, and retirement objectives. Planners must also be aware of applicable tax laws as they affect these benefits. Employees too must be sure of making the right choices to meet their needs. This program addresses the role of the financial planner, whether employee benefits specialist or individual planner, in helping to meet these objectives.
After completing this program, you will be able to understand:
- The depth and breadth of the broker’s work as a benefits advisor to employers
- The opportunity for independent planners to coordinate employees' personal financial planning with group plans
- The need for employees to coordinate personal financial planning decisions with employer-provided plans
- How to work with employers to ensure that employees make the right choices when choosing retirement benefits
- The impact of longevity, morbidity, and the health care crisis when working with highly compensated employees
